My Students

Help us enter the 21st century! We love computers but the ones in out classroom are really old and unreliable. A Nook Touch is easy for our 5 year old fingers to use, and we can read books, or play educational apps on technology that many of us have never used before.

I have an amazing job working with 23 Kindergrtners.

They are full of life, energy and such a curiosity to learn. My students run the whole range of tech exposure. Some of them have never used a computer, while some of them can run one with out any help at all. This also applies to their academic skills. Some cannot write their name, while others can. I teach in a public school located in Washington State. My school is in that sad middle ground where we do not receive the extra funding that at risk schools get and we do not have the extra funds that are a part of affluent schools. I have a class full of sweet, silly, excited to learn 5 and 6 year old's who make me laugh and love my job everyday.

My Project

A Nook touch is the perfect solution to the lack of technology my students experience at our school. It will give them technology that is easy to use, easy to regulate, and at their level. It will also give them access to interactive e-books and educational applications that will help develop their literacy and math skills. Dr. Seuss as an e-reader is fun, engaging, and makes even the most determined non-reader love the story. Using literacy and math applications will reinforce the skills we target everyday. We live in an age of technology, and they are starting out at a disadvantage with the current state of computers at our school. The fact that they are 5 is the reason we need screen protectors and a case.

Kindergrtners want to learn and they want to be a part of the world.

Unfortunately, they are not a part of the digital age with the resources we currently have at our school. Many also do not have these resources at home. A Nook touch gives them that technology exposure, that is so much a part of our world, and gives them them access to tools that will help to develop their academic skills.
