Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our second grade classroom, fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment is essential for the overall growth and development of my young learners. One powerful way to achieve this is by establishing a Kind Space, which encompasses a calming corner and a kidney table for small group meetings.

With this project, my intention is to create a calming space towards the back of my classroom to support my students’ social emotional health and wellbeing.

In that area, I intend to incorporate various fidgets, flexible seating, and additional materials to support my students’ social emotional health. The most needed item right now is a table for that area! Once I have a table, my Kind Space will be complete and I can then begin teaching the various social emotional skills that my students need (like self-awareness, emotions, self-regulation, etc.).

By incorporating this table in my classroom, I will be able to foster an atmosphere of kindness and inclusivity. Students will not only learn academic skills, but also important social emotional skills, such as empathy, active listening and conflict resolution. This Kind Space becomes a vital component in the holistic education of second graders, helping them become not only academically proficient, but also kind and compassionate individuals.
