This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most educators feel their classroom of students are the best and greatest. Although I can't argue with their opinions, I happen to think that I have the best and greatest students on this planet. There isn't a day that I don't look forward to seeing their faces and seeing them develop in knowledge and wisdom before my eyes. I may be their teacher, but they teach me so many lessons each day as well. Last school year I had the honor of being my students' third-grade literacy teacher. For the 2016-2017 school year, I was granted the gift of being their teacher again.

My students attend a Title l school located in the South Bronx in which 30% live in shelters.

Despite the obstacles they face on a daily basis, they are always eager to learn and never give up hope. As their teacher, I buy the majority of the materials they need to help them achieve their academic goals out of my own pocket because I want to provide them with the opportunities to learn and experience things they never imagined. I want to instill the joy that learning can bring regardless of the challenges within their own life.

My Project

During the previous school year my students and I received the gift of book baggies for my students independent leveled reading books. As you can imagined, after many days and months of placing different size books into the baggies their books' home became destroyed. I am requesting 70 new book baggies for my students. The book baggies will be my students' books safe haven to prevent their independent reading books from being lost or damaged. The bags are waterproof and have a label for students to write their name. My students love having a book baggie for their books. The day they received their first book baggie felt as it was not only their birthday, but their peers' birthday as well. They were filled with excitement to have a book baggie! They traveled with the book baggies everywhere they went, even on class' trips! The baggies gave my students a sense of responsibility. They learned how to respect and adored their books. Having a book baggie for their books gave my student a stronger feeling of pride when their reading level increased and they knew that their new books would be safe in their "book home."

Your donation will not only help to replace my students turned and broken book baggies, but you will help to restore their books' home.

Please support my students by providing a restored home for their books! Every dollar counts!
