A Handful of Fun!

Help me give my students learning through a sensory table. This can be used for sorting activities, letter/word identification, and science projects. A sensory table will provide opportunities for students to work together and build literacy skills.

My Students

Our school is made up of six kindergarten classes, and I am lucky to share 1 class of 19 students with my co-worker. My group of children is an ICT (Intergraded Co-Teaching) class. Our school population is nine percent ELL learners, and fourteen percent of our students receive special education services.

I currently have an awesome group of five-year-olds, who come to school each day eager to learn and who are full of energy!

They enjoy learning through hands on activity. They love to move around, socialize, and learn! We are hopeful to inspire our earliest learners to continue a path of academic excellence!

My Project

A 2-way sand and water table is a place designed for squishing, sifting, sorting, digging and pouring, where children can get messy, discover, and play freely. The sensory table is more than a place for children just to get messy, it is where they can learn and grow as well. A sensory table allows me to use water, sand, sensory slime, or other items in it.

The table allows students to participate in hands-on activities to develop language skills, fine motor skills, interpersonal skills, and kinesthetic skills.

It can also be very beneficial for students with special needs that have sensory needs. Sensory table activities can also be aligned with our curriculum. For example; I can have leaves and acorns in the table. While teaching letters, students can find letters by digging in the sand.

A sensory table will also help my students to stay engaged and focused on their learning task but allowing them to use all 5 of their senses.
