Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Shifting towards common core state standards has been a difficult shift for students and teachers, but not impossible. My goal this year is to lead students through the shift and guide them with the skills needed to be successful learners and college ready candidates.

The school where I currently teach is in the heart of a rough neighborhood.

Two blocks from our school exists a community of transients. Included in this community are some of our families that are living this lifestyle as well. I feel that for some of my students, school is the only safe and sane area that allows them to be a child and learn the things that every child should be learning. I would love for my students to be able think and analyze their surrounding and aspire to be bigger and better. My students should be able to be given the opportunity to choose from their future.

My Project

My students will be experiencing for the first time a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) program. We will begin by deepening our knowledge about Solids, Liquids, and Gas. My goal is to use the materials I am ordering such as; matter library books with the students to help them learn more about matter and the science journals so students are able to record their findings. Part of the STEM program also includes math, so students will also learn different strategies to use when problem solving and ten frames for number sense. One of my goals is for students to independently work and build up on explaining and presenting work to better understand their learning.

Your donations will help my students' learning to be fun and organized in a world of such whirlwind.

Our students need to have the tools that will allow them to grow, to choose their path and to be ready for everything that comes their way. After all, the sky is the limit and we want our future leaders to be prepared critical thinkers.
