My Students

Most of my students have a digital camera, but they are usually a simple point-and-shoot. I want them to see how picture-taking can become art with a high quality digital SLR.

We are an extremely low-income school district.

This doesn't mean that my students don't want or deserve great opportunities. Not everyone is talented when it comes to drawing and painting, but we could have the next Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer in our midst! I hope to provide that first step in discovering the wonderful world of photography.

My Project

Since my students have only ever used point-and-shoot cameras, they haven't grasped that photography can be a true art form. It takes a great camera to take great pictures and I want my students to have the opportunity to take photos using a high quality digital SLR camera. They will learn about different lenses, f-stops, exposures, focal lengths, and much more. I would never be able to afford a great SLR with my non-existent art budget, so I'm hoping we can acquire at least one good camera to get our photography lessons up and running.

Not everyone is a painter or sculptor or draughtsman.

But everyone can snap a picture. This camera will allow many of my students who might not have the interest or skill necessary for 2-D art to enjoy being creative and making great images. Photography is a wonderful branch of art and I don't want my students to be left out. Please consider supporting this project - you may never know the impact you may have on a young life. Thank you!
