My Students

My kids are exceptional! Our elementary school is a Title 1 school with over 65% of our children living below the poverty line. Even though they face many hardships they come to school each day trying their best to learn beyond the barriers. Because of these barriers many of my kids struggle with focus in the classroom. For this reason I use adaptive methods and high interest tools to gain and hold their attention, allowing them an opportunity to learn against the odds and focus on whats truly important, their educational growth.

Poverty and differences should not determine who receives the best education.

My school is a rainbow of beautiful children from all parts of the world. Each brings their own perspective and experiences to the classroom. Each is valued for their difference, not excluded. Investing in our children strengthens the community as a whole and creates promise for a future that is both inclusive and diverse.

Because my students have so many hardships in their lives outside of school, they often enjoy disappearing into a good story. Graphic novels an exciting way to create new readers and gain interest in characters and stories that they can truly visualize.

My Project

It is my full intention to get kids addicted to reading. Graphic novels are the new gateway to hooking early readers. The bursts of color and eye-catching illustrations may lure them in but the story is what will keep them coming back for more.

Kids might not know this but graphic novels are not just fun to read, but they are also useful tools.

The images in these books help to hone independent reading skills. Students are able to use the pictures as part of their problem solving strategy when encountering difficult words or concepts. It allows them to read deeper into the story and thus become better readers. These books will help me capture the attention of beginning readers and bring new adventures to my established readers as well.

My library is desperate for new life. Please help me liven things up. Your donations are individually cheered for and are much appreciated. The boxes that arrive will be opened with great anticipation. Thank you so much for your consideration.
