My Project
The fifth grade is a significant time in a child's life, especially when it comes to becoming a reader or...not. This is when many students decide whether to be done with books or where love and appreciation of reading and literature can be nurtured and grown. I was one of those students during my early education who didn't care about reading or writing, but then, thanks to one teacher, I did.
There was a teacher who introduced me to fantasy fiction; since then, I have become an avid reader, so much so that I ended up focusing my years of higher education on getting a degree in literature.
As someone who has been dramatically impacted by a single book when I was young, I want to give that same gift to my students. I want to show kids how much reading can be a positive force in their lives, how fictional worlds can provide time and space away from an overwhelming stream of media, and how these imaginary worlds, through intriguing plots, can teach life-changing lessons through metaphors and inference.
As someone whose life was changed by a single good book, it is my goal to change the lives of my students with the written word.
