A Glimpse of Life

My students need a classroom aquarium because it can be used to teach students about specific topics such as anatomy or more complex topics such as the food chain, the water cycle, or the nitrogen cycle.

My Students

My 6th grade classes are full of unique personalities. Creative, funny, dramatic, and mysterious, those are words to describe my students. My students explore science together through labs,reading and writing. I am building life-long learners, we work on projects incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. My classes are full of scientists,teachers and learners.

My students live in a small community centered around a lake .

The town is very small, with the majority of my student coming from low income families.

My Project

My students learn about the animal Kingdom. Having an aquarium would allow students to see freshwater vertebrates and invertebrates living in the same environment. This will allow the students to be able to identify and discuss the characteristics that allow these organisms to thrive in their environments and see how the animals interact with each other. The students will also learn how to care for the animals in the freshwater environment.

Having freshwater organisms within the classroom would allow more than ninety students each year to see and experience these organisms up close and personal.

This will also hopefully spark interest in future learning and career paths dealing with living organisms.
