Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am incredibly privileged and grateful to serve a fantastic bunch of kind, resilient and bright students from the community in a high-poverty area in The Bronx. My students deserve the best experiences and resources to learn. At the same time, the return in person this school year has been full of many challenges, and one of them is the transition for many students. During the online learning, many students were physically isolated, and now in person, some of them need support engaging in healthy ways with adults and peers. One of the areas I want to continue supporting my students is in being proactive and problem solvers. The more aware my students are about their choices, the more capable they will feel to make healthy choices. Furthermore, I am creating a cozy and welcoming space for all my students to enjoy. I want to have a check-in relaxed and welcoming area with a mailbox, self-referral slips for them to do self-check-in, and self-refer themselves to request the support they need. As we continue navigating the challenges of this school year, it is crucial to normalize asking for help and receiving support.

My Project

The materials will make a difference in my students' learning by helping them in gaining the skills and confidence they need to learn better. In addition, the lamp, mailbox, and decal wall/stickers and posters from the TPT will add a cozy and engaging look to my room for them to reflect and ask for support. The overall outcome is for my students to recognize that this area is their special place, and they will be able to sit and relax. In addition, it will allow them to request help privately to see me or speak to me about any concern they may have or when they need support when dealing with a situation.
