Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
For many of my transitional kindergarten students, this is their first school experience. A few have entered school with limited oral language skills in their home language and English. A large percentage of my students are English language learners. Developing oral language through play is essential. My classroom continues to be in dire need of materials to play with. Our school receives very limited funding for new classroom materials and resources every year. I, in turn, purchase sale or clearance items when I am able to afford them.
Dollhouses are an excellent resource for children to engage in imaginary play.
It provides excellent educational benefits for intellectual and social development. With the use of family member dolls and doll furniture, my students will explore role-play dialogue and develop a sense of self. In turn, it will allow them to acquire confidence as well.
A dollhouse is an endless opportunity for children to extend their learning. Sequencing events in a day, organizing furniture to the appropriate rooms in the house, as well as encouraging ideas of what families do in a home are just some of the activities that will take place with the use of a dollhouse in my classroom.
My students will have the opportunity to practice one of the most essential skills a child can acquire...language.
