My Project

For our next reading module, my students will be learning about what plants need to survive and how they are essential to our planet. Food from plants and animals can provide important nutrients necessary for growth, good health, and energy. Creating an indoor garden would help support my unit on plant life while encouraging healthy eating habits.

The children will be learning about the life cycle of a plant and what plants need to grow. They will be growing their own zinnias that I hope they can bring home in time for Mother's Day. This unit will enhance their understanding of how growing our own vegetables benefits our health. Moreover, students will be able to engage in STEM activities to further their learning, such as Identifying and illustrating the essential parts of a plant, Learning about each plant part's functions, and Researching the basic needs of a plant's survival.

To successfully start an indoor garden, we will need the following items: flower and vegetable seeds, nutrient-rich soil

pots to transport plants, a root viewer kit, a mini greenhouse kit

lights to help the plants grow indoors

At the end of our unit, students can bring home flowers and vegetable plants to enjoy the fruits of their labor. I am certain that with your contribution, students can participate in real hands-on learning activities that they will remember for years to come.
