My Project

In honor of Earth Day, my students will be learning about the importance of plants and animals to our Earth. Food from plants and animals can provide essential nutrients necessary for growth, good health, and energy. Creating an indoor garden would help support my unit on plant life while encouraging healthy eating habits.

We are starting our indoor garden from scratch, so we need everything! The children will be learning about the life cycle of a plant, what plants need in order to grow, and how growing our own vegetables is beneficial to our health. Moreover, students will be able to engage in STEM activities to further their learning, such as:

๐ŸชดLearning about each plant parts' functions

๐ŸชดResearching the basic needs of a plant's survival

๐ŸชดAnalyzing how different factors can affect plant growth

๐ŸชดMeasuring and tracking plant growth

๐ŸชดObserving the life cycle of a plant

๐ŸชดDiscovering the nutritional benefits of each food

In order to successfully start an indoor garden, we will need the following items:

๐Ÿชดvegetable seeds

๐Ÿชดnutrient rich soil

๐Ÿชดa seed starter tray

๐Ÿชดa heating pad to keep plants warm

๐Ÿชดlights to help the plants grow indoors

At the end of our unit, students will have the opportunity to bring home their plant in hopes of enjoying the fruits of their labor. I am certain that with your contribution, students will be able to participate in real hands-on learning activities that they will remember for years to come.
