Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Oscar Wilde said, "Art is the most intense mode of individualism that the world has known." My students love expressing themselves through art. To increase autism awareness, my class wants to create a gallery walk to express their individual and unique personalities!

My second and third grade students are all on the autism spectrum in a specialized school for students with special needs.

My students thoroughly enjoy art. They love to paint, glue, cut, and experiment with colors. Art is a mode in which they are able to be creative and therapeutically express themselves. Many of my students struggle to verbally communicate but when they are engaged in art activities, they are highly motivated to verbally communicate as well as communicate through their art. In addition, my students also are calmed when they engage in art. It is a form of therapy as well as a form of expression.

My Project

With the art resources, my students will create different forms of art as they engage in sculpting, painting, and collage art. The art the students create will then be displayed for students, parents, and staff members to see and admire in our class' own "gallery exhibit." The students' art will be products that the students and parents can take home, be proud of, and display in their own homes. The purpose of the gallery walk and art products is for the students to express their unique personalities as well as their creativity.

Your donations to this project will empower my students to be creative and express themselves.

It will also involve the families of my students in a very deep way as they are able to take part in a gallery walk displaying their child's art as a form of expression, creativity, and therapy.
