My Students
I teach a group of 24 vibrant Transition Kindergarten students in an urban neighborhood. All students at our school receive a free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. Most are learning English as their second language. For most, my classroom is their first school experience. They arrive at school every day eager to learn and grow.
They are our schools youngest learners and need a balanced curriculum with both play and academics in order to reach their potential.
They are always excited to try new things.
My Project
My students will benefit from a wireless doorbell. This is a product that teachers rave about. I have been wanting to try one in my classroom for several years. It is an attention getter used for classroom management. When students hear the chime of the doorbell, they stop working, freeze and look at the teacher. It is loud enough to get their attention, but not jarring or scary. It helps the teacher make quick transitions.
We also need a Bissell Sweeper.
Our classrooms are only vacuumed once a week, sometimes less. By the end of the first day, our rug is covered in dirt and bits of paper. Our classroom will stay clean and fresh all the time if we are able to quickly sweep up the rug at the end of each day. It doesn't require a loud bulky vacuum that frightens some students with sensory issues. Student monitors can even do the cleaning themselves.
My students need privacy shields so that I can be sure of what they know and stop eyes from wandering to neighboring papers. We have round tables, and I have been unsuccessful in creating my own shields that work on these desks.
