Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

All of my students come from culturally diverse families and low socioeconomic households. My students may not have access to the most basic resources outside of school; therefore, it is important to me that I use all of the resources available to me as an educator to gather what they need.

My students are just beginning to learn how to read.

They include students that already know their letters and sounds to students that are struggling to learn the alphabet to English Language Learners.

My Project

Fundations is a a program that focuses on reading and writing to meet students where they are in the reading and writing process. The Fundations program is used throughout the United States and is thoroughly documented to be a successful research based program.

The program is multisensory, structured, systematic, cumulative, and explicit.

In order to be effective, students need to use manipulative to help them build and take apart words. The Fundations At-Home Packet gives each student a low-tech way to do just that. By building a foundation in kindergarten students will have the tools necessary to use reading to learn.
