My Project

We have a big, bright and airy classroom which is phenomenal on most days - but we'd love to have the option to make small, cozy spaces within it, too. Our students are quite the engineers making all kinds of things out of cardboard, and we'd love to have the opportunity to make amazing cardboard forts to read and play in.

With these tools, we will get to make complex box forts with recycled cardboard and then play with light and shadow inside.

I was completely inspired after attending the California Kindergarten Conference in January and learning all about how to play with light, and I want to bring my learning into the classroom for students too. We will use string lights, multicolored flashlights, and "sunset" lamps to make shadow puppets, tell stories, and give our young learners a totally new sensory experience.

The fort building tools include kid-safe cutters and cardboard-specific screws, plus sheets and clamps. With all of these combined, we can make some really awesome tunnels, rooms, and hang-out spaces and change them to match our upcoming classroom studies, like the ocean, animal adaptations, and even our famous artist study. I can't wait to see what our engineers come up with!
