My Students

We have an amazing group of talented, dedicated, and diverse students that compete at a high level despite operating on a shoe-string budget. Our students consistently earn high accolades through sheer force of will. Somehow they always rise to the challenge and hold their own against properly funded schools across the country using their ingenuity and ability. With the proper support our school could become a premier STEM program in our city.

As part of the largest high school in the Philadelphia School District, our school is home to over 3,500 students with over 50 languages spoken and just as many socioeconomic backgrounds.

School provides a safe space where students' differences are embraced and students can focus on their learning and growth as scientists and as emerging adults.

My Project

This school year has posed new challenges for everyone, especially our student body. In my district we have remained virtual for the entirety of the school year at the High School Level. We only welcomed back to the school building around 100 students out of our 3500 student population. As a result, there has been a struggle to build a whole school community with the current freshman class.

This year's freshman students have never attended class in their school building and I would love to be able to send them a card highlighting the great accomplishment they have made by attending a full year of school in this virtual setting.

My students have tackled this obstacle with grace and we have been working so diligently to to create a positive learning environment together. These cards will be hand written and addressed by the student's teachers as a gesture of good will and congratulations to the students for their continued hard work.
