My students are diverse in the languages that they speak, the homes that they live in and the countries that they come from, but they are drawn together by a love of music and a desire to work hard as part of a team. My school is a part of a close-knit community, and our school band is a model of the community's ethnic and socioeconomic diversity.
I am constantly amazed by my students as they help each other, care for each other, and inspire each other in my band class.
My 121 4th and 5th grade band students are intrinsically motivated, creative problem solvers. They love to learn and to try new things, and they challenge each other to try their best each day. I am proud of my students' growth mindset and ability to find the positives in every situation.
My Project
Playing in a band is an experience like no other - students learn musical skills, responsibility, teamwork, and much more while playing an instrument. Band students must have access to an instrument every day in order to be successful. Many of my students receive free and reduced lunch and have difficulty renting or buying an instrument of their own, so I am working to acquire more school-owned instruments that students can borrow for the year at no charge. This year, we are in desperate need of one flute and one clarinet.
Your donation will make it possible for low-income students to experience the joy of playing an instrument.
This project will bring opportunity to two different families who struggle financially every year. Instruments can last for decades when cared for properly, so this is an investment that will make an impact for generations. Every student deserves the chance to learn to play an instrument!
