My Students

My students work hard at school and at home. Like most of us, they feel a great sense of pride after accomplishing a great task or finishing a long-term assignment.

I teach a diverse group of juniors and seniors at a small city school.

More than 60% of our students receive free or reduced lunches and almost 10% of our students speak a language other than English at home. Although the poverty level is high, many of the seniors are planning to attend two and four-year colleges this fall, and some of the juniors have already begun internships at elementary schools and the community hospital. No matter what challenges they face, they are determined to succeed and always put forth their best effort.

My Project

To help prepare these students for college, they are required to complete many research papers and argument essays. We have made great strides to include technology and research into our curriculum, but have encountered a major problem. When students type research papers at school, they cannot access them from home to finish them. If students had access to USB flash drives, they would be able to save work they started at school and finish the assignment at home. Students who do not have computers at home will be able to save their papers and finish them at the local library. By supplying the updated technology, you would be allowing students to do their best work and not be rushed to finish a task in a 56-minute class period.

Your donation will directly impact these students and show them that there are people in the community who care about them.

Providing the USB flash drives will be a daily reminder that to be successful, one has to strive to do his best.
