My Students

Seven and 8 year old children are smart, funny, and curious! The students at my school come from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, mirroring the close knit neighborhood around our school. My students are serious about learning and I want to support them in every way possible.

My school is an IB-authorized school teaching under the umbrella of the Primary Years Programme.

Each grade, has six units of inquiry that promotes global mindedness and positive character traits. Our mission is to empower future citizens of the world.

My Project

Entering a new classroom as a first year teacher elicits many emotions. I am excited, overwhelmed, and determined to make my room a home to 30 second graders; however, this is not easy. The sheer amount of work and materials needed is essential and diverse; therefore, my goal is to create a community of curious and motivated learners and part of this process is the need for classroom “nuts and bolts.”

Like any community, our classroom requires the basic tools needed to be successful.

Things like kickbands and wobble chairs help students focus on their learning while getting the "wriggles" out. The bulletin boards make the classroom organized and colorful. The other materials will help with organization and the functioning of a classroom. Lastly, the books included will be used for several specific lessons.

Just as any books, technology, or manipulatives, these basic materials are as essential. Simple everyday items in the hand of a child can make the difference between long term success or failure. We, as a classroom community, need these materials to learn, focus and participate throughout the school year. With your help, our classroom will be colorful, complete and ready for that first child to arrive through our door.
