Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Like roses rising from concrete my students' tenacity and resilience is unrivaled. To support their growth, I strive to cultivate a space where my students feel safe, accepted, and comfortable to learn in. As a class, we are committed to overall learning and inclusive of personal growths and larger societal norms/dynamics. Local issues and events fuel personal connection and relevancy in my classroom. Thus, my students are constantly making connections to themselves and genuinely find class worth their time.

Such efforts require a multitude of materials and supplies to peek their interests and expand on their growth which I personally fund because my students are worth it!

Unfortunately in my LA community, nutritional snacks are few and practically non-existent for my students. They live in a food desert and do not have the means to afford healthy foods or snacks. Students typically resort to eating processed foods high in sugar, sodium, and trans fat which creates even more health disparities in their community.

Too often, the snacks I provide in class and during tutoring, are the only meal the students eat all day.

For the human mind to effectively learn, physical needs like hunger must be met for the brain to be able to process and create critical thinking. My students deserve access to quality foods with high nutritional value to nourish their young minds! Help us heal by providing a meal!
