Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from a low-income neighborhood with limited resources and have varied sensory, emotional and learning difficulties. Trying to concentrate in a very humid, hot and sticky room makes school even harder. They cannot work to their best potential if their clothes are dripping in sweat. These amazing kids need your FAN-tastic support to help them cool off and focus on their language goals. The oscillating fans are quiet and will be one less distraction during the brutal NY summers!

My Project

Our school was built in 1898, long before air conditioning and proper electrical wiring for such systems was available. These fans will cool the kids off and keep them alert and comfortable so that they can do their best.

It's very difficult to concentrate in a room that reaches 90- 100 degree temperatures.

The ever changing climate means my room can be this hot from May all the way to October! The students are observed to become lethargic, anxious and frustrated. It is also a scary health hazard as many of them have asthma and other medical conditions. This safety issue is a top priority for me. I want to ensure my students have the basic necessities to be safe and secure under my care.
