My Students

My students are an energetic and curious bunch of kiddos! They come to school every day with smiles on their faces, eager to learn, despite some of the tough situations they come from. They are thrilled to learn and grow, every day, no matter what challenges they face in their home lives!

Our classroom is a community where the students can feel included, safe, and successful!

Access to hands-on learning materials and books is necessary for their success and engagement in their learning. They are so appreciative of the opportunities that they have to grow as a community of learners together in our classroom!

My Project

My students come from low-income areas with very diverse backgrounds, most of which include minimal exposure to educational activities before arriving in our classroom. Due to different circumstances, their families are unable to provide the manipulatives, literature, or other extra materials that are necessary for cultivating a love of learning.

My students come from all different backgrounds and need books that reflect them physically and culturally within our classroom.

These diverse books (both fiction and non-fiction) will help catch the eye of the children in my classroom and increase their love of reading. With the help of these books, my scholars will learn to feel accepted and inspired to be who they are in their own skin. These books will teach scholars about others like them when they read texts about Rosa Parks or Wilma Rudolph in our biography unit; they will learn positive affirmations and social interactions with others who are different from themselves with the use of these inclusive books during our character education blocks and daily library time. My first grade friends love learning and most especially reading! I want to choose books that will make them feel included and accepted as well as help them develop social and emotional skills to support character development and relationship building.
