This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Think back to when you were in school...did you have access to technology like we have today? We live in a fast-moving society and technology now plays a vital part in a student's educational experiences. However, without proper technological tools these educational experiences are not possible.

My students attend a public school located in the Northwest side of Chicago.

My classroom consists of 25 second grade bilingual students and all are Hispanic. All of my students receive free lunches and lack many educational resources at home and at school. They are very interested in many aspects of technology. For example, they love the website BrainPopJr which features short kid-friendly films about topics ranging across all subject-area matter. However, when we want to view a clip all of the students have to gather around my flat-screen monitor which is very small to view for an entire classroom. We use this website as much as we can so as to enhance the quality of a lesson. A lot of these students do not have computers at home or even access to books thereby limiting their chances to enhance their educational background. Some students benefit from online resources as some students are visual learners and this form of learning thereby enhances their understanding of the subject.

My Project

Imagine a classroom that features learning via technology. We need to remember that students have different styles of learning such as visual learning. Having an LCD projector integrated within the infrastructure of my classroom will allow for ample opportunities to integrate technology within any lesson. Students will be able to comprehend the subject matter in a clear and concise manner that they will be able to extend beyond second grade. We would be giving students the opportunity to use technology...a commodity that many students lack within their households. For example, we will be able to view BrainPopJr films and activities to enhance their understanding on any subject matter. This will cause a chain reaction of events in which students use what they have viewed or practiced to extend their learning in an extensive manner. I feel that I limit the amount of use of online resources due to the fact that students cannot see the websites, films or activities very well.

Picture it...an interactive classroom with technology.

The students are yearning for this form of learning. They are tired of worksheets and activity pages. They deserve more and you can be apart of that change. You will allow students to become apart of an interactive, learning experience that not many classrooms have the opportunity to participate in. We need to remember that we are preparing tomorrow's leaders...so let's do it right! Let's change the point of VIEW within my classroom.
