What are your best memories of science class. Mine involve labs and experiments and especially dissections.
My students are all in middle school and have been identified as having mild to moderate learning disabilities.
As such, they have a lot of difficulty learning from traditional lecture and text based lessons. Like many students, they thrive when they have to opportunity to get their hands-on a project and learn in an experiential way.
My Project
Having dissection equipment like trays, scalpels, aprons and gloves, as well as specimens like cow eyes, preserved squid, and sheep's brains will bring to life our study of study of biology and life science. Students will be able to explore different phyla and organ systems in a way that even the best books and computer simulations cannot provide. Even more importantly, the students will be able to feel like real scientists and hopefully will gain a better understanding of the lab and the scientific method of inquiry.
My students do not have many learning experiences outside of class and so what we do for them in class is of tremendous importance.
Please help me give them the kind of class that they will remember forever.
