My Students

For many of my students, Kindergarten is their first experience in a school setting. They begin the year thinking we will spend the day playing together, and I want my classroom to feel like that as much as possible.

Kindergartners are eager to learn and do their best, and I strive to instill a love of learning at an early age.

My students attend a Title I school in Virginia where we value making connections and putting the needs of students first.

My Project

I have been slowly replacing the seating in my classroom over the years to better meet the needs of my students. Throughout the day, they sit in wobble stools, donut chairs, beanbag chairs, and lounge on the floor. The chairs at our guided reading and math table are decades old, worn out and need replaced. The "feet" are missing on many of the chairs, making them wobbly and giving them uneven heights. My students need to be physically comfortable in our classroom in order to be more attentive and engaged during math and reading activities.

My hope is that by adding different seating options and classroom choices that students will be able to learn more comfortably as well as experience how each of us learn in different ways.

This project would help me build a classroom where students feel safe, comfortable, and accepted. These materials will be used in my classroom this year and hopefully for many, many years to come. Please help these young students start their school lives off with a strong foundation and a love for school.
