Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My goal for this project is to foster literacy development in an inviting space for students to engage in independent and guided reading activities.

I will use laminated materials, such as alphabet charts and sight word cards, to reinforce early literacy skills in a durable format.

I will use color ink to support bilinguals, in my classroom. I use blue text for English and red text for Spanish. I will use the materials to create interactive math, science, and art resources that align with curriculum goals, turning the corner into a versatile, multi-disciplinary hub.

My students are very persistent and love to try to do things on their own including putting materials and resources where they belong! I will promote organizational skills by utilizing labeled bins to teach students how to organize and maintain classroom resources, encouraging independence and responsibility. I will decorate the corner with laminated, colorful, and inclusive posters/pictures that celebrate diversity and positivity, making the space welcoming and inspiring. I will use the ink and laminating sheets to create visually engaging resources that capture students’ attention and support a variety of learning styles.

My students enjoy read-alouds and looking at books throughout the day! I would love to provide a cozy, shared space for group activities, storytime, and peer discussions, fostering teamwork and communication with a comfortable couch and pillows. I would also love to provide a space for my students to relax, and practice mindfulness and emotional regulation. I will use and introduce social-emotional toys to help students learn to identify and manage their emotions, build empathy, and develop conflict-resolution skills in a calm environment.
