Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I public school where all of the students at my school are immigrants to New York City. In my class alone, I have over 15 countries and 9 languages represented. What makes my students special is the community and bonds they form in this diverse environment. In my class, I design and facilitate Project Based Learning curriculum that embraces their cultural identities and empowers my students to create change in their community.

My Project

I create Project Based Learning curriculum for my students. To do this, I design and create all of the content myself. Since all of my students are English Language Learners, I create video and audio materials as language supports for my students.

We are about to re-enter the classroom after a year of remote instruction and I am so excited to be in-person with my students; however, the school computer I've used for the past eight years has dramatically dropped in performance.

I am no longer able to create the audio and video content I need to for my students. Additionally, the old tech in the laptop does not support the new tech I use to display my work in the classroom. It will not connect to my Apple TV so I cannot project content from my computer.

I was informed I will not receive a new laptop from the school since we are focusing on student laptop purchases school-wide. This computer will greatly enhance my ability to create engaging and supportive content for my ELL students as well as more easily facilitate my projects with my students for years to come.
