My Students

When history calls, my students listen. Then they answer the call by doing research and blogging. Let's help them out by giving them more computers in the classroom.

My students are a diverse bunch that reside in a poverty stricken area with big dreams and hope for more.

Some of them are learning English as a second language, some have special needs, some are gifted, and all of them love to learn. I teach Social Studies, plus lifeskills in my own homeroom. In our spare time, we create projects that impact our whole student body.

Our campus was affected by hurricane Harvey. Due to damages we started school two weeks late on August the 25th with extended school hours. My kids are excited as every to be back in class as it is a sense of normalcy in the midst of everything else that's going on in our city of Houston, Texas.

We are a Title I school, and many of our students do not have opportunities that many other children have. The campus is an important safe haven for my students.

My Project

I am seeking more ways to use technology for the greatest gain in student achievement. Our state and district leaders encourage schools to use technology in the classroom but do not provide schools with the funding to implement this technology. Use of computers in the classroom would increase computer literacy among my students.

My students love writing about history on their blogs, but they must take turns using the computers.

This is hard to do in a one-hour period for all the students. Sometimes they must wait several days before they have a chance to get on a laptop to write a paper or research, and then the learning effectiveness diminishes. We need more computer technology in the classroom. With this proposal, we will add to our growing computer collection, so every student will be able to get on the computers at the same time. We are asking for 6 HP all in one desktops.
