My Students

Where do you like to read? Do you sit sitting up in a chair at a desk or do you find a comfy cozy place to relax and focus? I know that I like to sprawl out and get comfortable. My students need a place to relax and enjoy great books!

My students are awesome!

They are bright, funny second graders. Our school is a Title I school, more than 60% of our students qualify for the free lunch program. My students come from hardworking families, but many of our families struggle to provide the just the necessities. It brings me so much joy to provide a classroom environment that makes my students feel cherished, safe and at home. I believe that having comfortable places to sit and read will help to accomplish this!

My Project

I am requesting four bean bag chairs for my students to read in. I know that having a new, comfortable place to read will help to increase my students reading stamina and motivation. I don't like to read sitting in a chair at a desk, especially for long periods of time, so I know that they don't. I allow them to read on our floor, but without support, that can be uncomfortable. These new seats will support them and wrap them in comfort. These great seats are also easy to clean and wipe down and will not allow a place for germs or little critters (lice) to multiply!

My reading philosophy is simple.

I want to give children ownership over their own learning, reading and thinking. I want to give them every opportunity to read in authentic, meaningful ways. I want to train them to know what kind of reader they are and how they learn best. To do this, I want to give them as many opportunities to read and build their stamina as possible. I believe that having a comfortable place to read is a vital part of this!
