My Students

I have a classroom full of 22 eager-to-learn first graders, and they are the most amazing group of kids. They come to school excited about the day and ready to work hard and learn a lot. They have a variety of different interests and all love to read.

My classroom is also full of students whose families speak only Spanish at home.

My school is a high poverty school in Memphis, TN. Our school is a very large school, but, even though it is large, the students still feel that it is their home, and they are welcomed there. We want it to be an effective learning environment and want these students to have every opportunity available to them.

My Project

These materials will provide a way for me to organize books to help students be able to find their favorite stories in the classroom library. With first graders a library can be overwhelming, but having an organized section with all of their favorite books in one spot will help.

A comfy rug will create a space for students to lounge as they read their favorite stories.

Plus since it is a green rug it will tie in with our camping theme and will seem like they are outside on the grass. Plus, sand trays will help students have a tactile learning experience while practicing new spelling words.
