Every morning during my pre-planning, I check my email sipping my coffee as my students start shuffling in. One-by-one students walk by in lines ready to start their day. "Good Morning!" "I can't wait for Art!" "Can I help you set up for the day?" "Can I help you clean your paintbrushes?" "Can I help you wipe your tables down?" I have just learned to leave my door open and let my little people come in and welcome them.
In Art, all my students get a chance to fully express themselves in their own creative ways.
Our school is like a family and our kids are caring learners thanks to our International Baccalaureate Program. Art is a place where they can have fun, be creative, and express themselves. My classroom also gives our learners an outlet to try new things where they can see how truly talented they all are. I have been working in Atlanta since 2013 as an Art Educator.
My Project
I like to give my learners the option for different seating around the art room so that they are most comfortable to create and learn. Some students work well at a standard table, while others work better on the floor, on a comfy chair, etc. More options mean for comfort which in turn means my students all feeling at home in the art room and can create to the best of their ability. It is also a nice place for students with specials needs or learning accommodations to differentiate our learning!
