My Students

I am currently the teacher of a wonderful group of who I lovingly call my "kinderkids” I work in a large Title I primary school with nearly 1000 students PK-2nd grade. More than half of our students come from low-income households.

I view each student as the future of our community.

In my classroom, not only do I see 20 adorable faces, but I see future doctors and nurses, computer programmers and artists, first responders, military members, judges and engineers, chefs and architects. My job as an educator is to give each and every child in my classroom countless opportunities to grow and develop into the fantastic people they will one day become, and it is my honor and privilege to watch their academic successes and personalities unfold day by day.

My Project

Our current classroom rug is quite small. Only ten to twelve students can fit on it comfortably. Therefore, the other half of the class ends up sitting on the fringe of the carpet or on the hard floor surrounding it. In our classroom, we strive to provide a family atmosphere where all are included. It is very hard to do this when there is not a space big enough for all to come together for morning meetings, calendar time, and whole group reading and phonics lessons. This rug would allow for all students to have a spot on our classroom rug!
