Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been working at the same New York City Public School for the past 10 years, my entire teaching career. It is a wonderful place to work, with supportive administration, caring teachers and hard working students. We are a Title I school, with a majority of our students receiving free or reduced lunch.

I teach a wonderfully diverse mix of third graders.

Not only are my students varied in their backgrounds and ethnicities, they are also incredibly diverse in their abilities and learning styles. I am the general education teacher in an ICT class, which stands for Integrated Co-Teaching. I work collaboratively with a wonderful special education teacher. Our class is made up of 60% general education students and 40% special education students. The way that we run our classroom is barrier free and completely integrated, making it almost impossible to differentiate between which of our students are labeled as special ed students.

My Project

I am requesting a half moon table for my classroom. This is a perfect table for small group instruction. It allows for a teacher to be centrally located across from a group of students. This table would enable me to effectively pull a small group of struggling students to a comfortable location to continue their learning during independent time.

Many of my special education students need a little extra instruction and guidance after a whole group lesson.

Having this table in my classroom would give them a very comfortable location to be able to meet with me (a much better alternative to having a small group meeting on the floor!) This table would truly change the way my students receive additional support. Having this project funded would make a daily difference in the lives of 26 students and 2 grateful teachers.
