My Students
My students are a special group. I serve in a Title I school where all students receive free breakfast daily, and 90% receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students are not only learning academics, but are challenged with learning to speak English.
We have the highest number of refugee students in our district.
Many of my students face hardships every day, yet they come to school eager to learn. My students are involved in a backpack program, which provides nutritious food for them, as well as their families for the weekend.
My Project
I am requesting a carpet for my students to sit on during instruction, as well as use during center time. Kindergarten students spend the majority of their time on the carpet, engaged in participatory learning, and this carpet will provide individual seating for each child.
Many of my students do not have a space to call their own at home.
Giving the child their own color square that is recognized as theirs, creates a sense of belonging, while sitting together on the carpet will create a sense of community. My students will thank you for providing this special learning space for them to enjoy.
