Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My group of high school students demonstrates their passion for the medical field each and every day in my classroom working to earn college credit.
Our students are your future nurses who are motivated to help others!
Students at our school often have limited resources and rarely would have an opportunity to visit a college campus. They all have an interest in the healthcare field seeking out learning opportunities to expand on their knowledge.
Most of the students in the class are seniors preparing for life after high school. Eight of these students earned their certified nursing assistant certifications. They have all qualified to be enrolled in this college class which means despite their limited resources, they have excelled in their high school medical, science, and math courses and demonstrate their passion every day for learning more about the medical field.
My Project
One of our goals as teachers is to prepare our students for life after high school. Students respond positively when they feel excited about something. This early college class has afforded these students the opportunity to learn more about the medical field including medical terminology and the ability to hear from over a dozen professionals in a variety of healthcare fields.
A visit to a university campus and the ability to observe a college class will excite my students about their futures and help motivate them to succeed.
Although I have historically seen my students be inspired by the content in this class. I also want to expose them to a real-life college experience with the hope of getting them excited about post-secondary education. A lot of my students would be first-generation college students so they don't have the appreciation of what it means to earn a college education. My plan is to visit a local university campus (one of the most popular colleges in-state), take a tour, sit-in on an actual college allied health class, eat lunch on campus and visit the bookstore. This visit will allow my students to see a piece of what college life is like. After the visit, the students will have a better understanding of what going to college means and hopefully help motivate them to apply.
