Help me give my students the opportunity to explore Cell Biology with these more advanced microscopes compare to the very old ones that we have inherited from another school that have upgraded theirs. Seeing is believing!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are mostly from the Eastend community of Houston. The demographics consist of predominantly Hispanic population, a smaller percentage of African American and a sprinkle of Caucasian and Asian students. My school is a title I school, hence students are mostly from families with lower socioeconomic status.
Like most young people out there, my students enjoy hands on experiences in Science, and are excited to try new things.
They are very inquisitive and ask a lot of questions. They are very eager to learn. Sometimes we don't get to achieve our lab goals due to lack of lab equipment, but we do try our best to make the best of what we have available at our school to learn the curriculum.
My Project
My project aims to provide my 7th grade students an enjoyable experience to explore Cell Biology. This concept often becomes a struggle to teach for me due to lack of reliable equipment in my school. It is a concept students find difficult to comprehend and intimidating because it is too abstract for them.
The study of cells can be a very exciting experience if we have the right equipment to see them.
The magnification of the microscopes that we have right now are at best 100X, though they have a 400X objective the lenses are extremely blurry and just frustrate the students.
Just visualizing that we have these more advanced microscopes in my classroom fills my heart with excitement and enthusiasm to prepare labs and explore cells of different kinds of living things. I'm sure the same joy will be shared by my students. Just the thought of my students' excitement to learn about cells already multiplies my happiness a hundredfold.
