Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with a wonderful group of second graders who are energetic, inquisitive, and highly motivated to learn. They come from diverse backgrounds and have a wide range of learning needs, including students with learning disabilities, English learners, and students who are gifted.

We are an urban school located in one of the largest school districts in the country.

Although there has been a major decrease in funds for our school over the past few years, our school community has worked together to provide our students with a quality education and we are proud to be named a "California Distinguished School". Yet, decreasing funds also means fewer resources for our students.

My Project

A learning environment should be clean and inviting. Our current rug is worn and dated. This requested rectangular carpet will provide a comfortable, clean, and cozy place for students to work. Our classroom routines include time on the rug every day at various times of the day. We work on the carpet for many whole group lessons, read-alouds, math and science lessons, and our differentiated small group lessons. Students spend a large part of their day learning and exploring on the carpet. Therefore a clean and comfortable carpet is a classroom necessity. Where better can a student plan, create, explore, read, imagine, share, perform, and cooperate while learning than on a brand new, organized, attractive rug.

Along with the carpet, I am requesting three Wobble Chairs that will allow students to move and be active while seated in order to learn better and be more productive.
