The use of communication is not only a daily activity in my classroom, but also a necessity in our daily life. I teach a PreK Special Education class in a lower socioeconomic area. Most of my students have multiple disabilities along with speech disabilities. Some of my students have no language. iPads would be the ultimate tool to use in my classroom by giving my students the voice the news. With the use of adaptive communication device programs, we would be able to teach our students how to tell us they are hungry, want to play, need to use the restroom etc. We would be able to teach them every day functional skills so many of us take for granted.
Plus, for those in our class that lack fine motor skills, having an iPad will enable them to use their rings and hands which ultimately improves muscle tone in the hands.
A much needed skill. Increase in muscle tone will allow them to hold writing instruments and utensils. Having IPads , students will be able to communicate, build muscle tone and focus on increasing their learning!
