Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of strong, passionate, and eager diverse students that are so excited to come back in-person this school year after facing many changes and challenges with learning virtually. I teach in high-poverty section of New York located in the Bronx with very limited resources. 100% of our students qualify to receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students don't even have the resources to further their learning at home.

However, with a little creativity each student helps one another in order to further challenge their thinking.

Each of my students learns through many different learning styles. It is very important to have the right tools to accommodate and continuously meet their needs either visually, auditory, or with many hands-on activities/projects that will help each student to stimulate their minds and encourage their exploration of many new learning concepts. I want to do everything I can to further support my students to accomplish their academic goals and success in life.

My Project

Reading is so important because it helps each student to explore new words, phrases, and experience emotions that will enhance their development. This is why I advocate everyday the importance of reading a book. Reading is a key part of our class daily routine, which I would love to continue to help build in our diverse classroom.

I want each student to find stories that reflect their families, cultures, and books that are part of students interest.

Each student will be able to use these wonderful books in class to practice specific reading skill and/or strategy when working independently. With these books each student will build their fluency and hopefully help me instill a lifelong passion & love for reading.
