My Students

My robotics team is an eclectic collection of students from AP and IB students to students with special needs. We are one of the oldest teams in South Carolina. In recent years, my team has increased from seventeen to forty-eight students. They attend not only my school, but also schools from adjacent school districts and a few home schooled students. With this degree of diversity, you could almost suspect the team to be fragmented. However, the team is very much like a family, with everyone supporting one another.

The team does more than build robots.

They learn the soft skills that are important in college and future careers. They learn how to work together, communicate their ideas in ways that others can understand and they learn to listen to others. During competitions, they recognize that they cooperate with other teams to build a winning alliance.

My Project

An important part of any robotics team is a visual history. Professional quality photos is necessary for an inviting webpage and effective social media presence.

A student photographer can capture all of the aspects of a robotics team.

We need a visual history of the build season (mechanical, electrical and programming students team building the robot) and of competition (drive team, pit crew, scouting and the cheer crew).

Before competition, photos of the robot are used for our “Robot Reveal”. During competition, photos of the robot and its features are often used by the pit crew when discussing the build to the judges.

With an updated camera, the media sub-team will become a more intricate part of the team.
