Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

All of our students deserve to have a safe space to process their emotions in a healthy manner. Our population is unique in the sense that the majority of our students have many responsibilities at home to make sure their families can live as well as their responsibilities as a student.

COVID-19 has impacted our students socially and emotionally by decreasing social interaction and presenting more challenges at home and school.

Many of our students are emotionally drained from having to help their families financially due to the economy as well as be a full-time student. Two years of minimal social interaction has made it hard for our students to work on coping skills and emotion regulation. Creating a calming space on campus, with the pillows, bean bag chairs and calming tools, will facilitate in helping our students learn vital coping skills to succeed.

By helping create this space, we are not just helping the current population, we are helping their younger family members for generations to come, realize they to can succeed at school and people care about their wellbeing.
