This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are unique. They have special needs and need tools to help them with their emotional regulation. I have students struggling with their emotional regulation and mental health. Some of my students are non-verbal and struggle to communicate how they feel. The materials in my project will help my students improve their emotional regulation and mental health. This project includes a chair, Interlex Warmies, weighted blanket, fidget toys, playdough, kinetic sand, string lights, a lamp, a foldable divider, and an air diffuser.

All the items in this project will be used to help my students improve their mental health and let go of their anxiety.

The materials in this project will be in a calm corner and my students will have ready access to these items. The divider in this project will be helpful to give my students a private space for them to engage in mindfulness activities. The chair in this project is comfortable and allows students to move their body back and forth. The kinetic sand, fidget toys, and playdough will be available for them in the calm space. The calm space will also string lights. The lamps change colors to cue a student to take a deep breath. The scented air diffuser that gives a calming scent at timed intervals. The Interlex Warmies in this project are therapeutic. The are soft and heavy and smell like lavender. It will be wonderful having a safe and calm space my students can go they are feeling anxious and overwhelmed.
