My Project

The Brothers' Nook aims to create a dedicated reading corner for our School to support the literacy and personal development of of male students especially or male students of color. This space will foster a love of reading, provide access to diverse literature, and create a supportive environment for dialogue and community-building. The bean bags will give the students a feeling of comfort as they relax reading different pieces of literature they can relate to while enjoying a cup of tea.

Project Objectives:

Encourage Literacy: Increase reading engagement among Black male students through access to culturally relevant materials.

Build Community: Create a safe space for students to connect with peers, mentors, and role models.

Promote Identity: Highlight literature that reflects the experiences and contributions of Black men, fostering a sense of pride and belonging.

Dr. Philpot DeKalb Alternative School Grades 9-12

Celebrate Black teachers and kids! This project supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of students are Black.

Equity Focus

At this school, more than 50% of students are Black, Latino, and/or Native American, and more than 50% come from low-income households. Learn how your donation to this school supports a more equitable education.
