My Students

"1932 Empire State Building. 1973 Sears Tower. 1998 Petronas Towers. 2004 Taipei 101. 2009 Burj Dubai. They all had to start somewhere. Lego. Just imagine." - Lego

I am a New York City public school teacher at an all male middle/high school.

Our mission is to teach our young men to be citizens of integrity who will become lifelong leaders through team-building and servicing their community. When my principal asked the sixth grade teachers to come up with an elective period, I knew Lego education would be perfect for my students. Our sixth grade is energetic and shows a lot of enthusiasm for learning. I know by incorporating Legos into the curriculum will be a great outlet for my students to be creative and enjoy learning.

My Project

"I love playing with Legos. I have the Lego City Police Station because when I grow up I want to be a police officer."- Sixth Grader When my student said this to me, the light bulb in my head went on. I decided my Lego curriculum will be the study of the history of New York City by building with Legos. Students will learn the rich history of New York City and create some of the city's most iconic buildings, examine the inner workings of the city's civil service departments, and appreciate all the arts the city has to offer. Students will learn the importance and history of each element of the city, and then recreate it by building it with Legos. Our goal is to replicate New York City out of Legos.

Lego education will improve my classroom because it will provide a unique and different way for my students to learn.

This project will change the lives of my students because they will not only learn how to work collaboratively to achieve a goal, but they will be exposed to the many elements that make a city operate. Using Legos in the classroom will allow the future engineers, architects, police officers, and fire fighters of my classroom become successful young men.
