Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an enthusiastic group of first graders. I teach a group of first-graders who love learning and going to school. If you were to ask my students what their favorite subject is, you would get a wide range of answers including math, reading, social studies, science, and art.

Our school is very small but diverse.

We not only have many regular education classes but also have three special education classes. Most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school is a Title I school with 100% of our students receiving free lunch. Most of my first graders are Limited English Proficient.

My Project

Students, parents, and teachers have all donated used books to help me build my classroom library. This year, we were able to purchase new books - but I don't have enough space to put them on my bookshelves!

This new bookcase will allow students to access exciting new titles for their independent reading.

The sturdy, low shelves will allow me to organize the classroom with a clearly defined library, with space for independent work and for book displays. Students need to see our new books to pick them. Currently, the books are languishing in boxes, and the students are itching for new titles. Help me unite them!

We are also asking for the new Mo Willems books to add to our Mo Willems collection in our classroom. My students enjoy reading his books and are excited to get his books.
