Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a public school which celebrates diversity, cultural, ethnic, physical, and neurological. We have an annual Ability Awareness event, a Lunar New Year celebration, and many other wonderful events to raise awareness that we are not all from the same background and that is great!

My third graders are highly intelligent and empathetic, and it is my job, as an educator, to provide them with learning experiences which promote not only academic growth but positive social growth as well.

My Project

These materials will make a difference in my students' learning by helping me show students that to be a hero, to be adventurous, to take chances, and to be successful you do not need to fit a specific physical mold that so many famous texts demonstrate.

Book series are great for reluctant readers, once you get them hooked on an exciting series with a main character they can identify with, be it one of the same or the opposite gender.

Students will be much more engaged when reading about children like themselves. Students will also learn that to find someone like you, does not mean they must look like you. Not all students need to see their physical selves in the text, but illuminating that they have the option helps create a more diverse and culturally accepting classroom.
