This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Seventh grade is such a wonderful age to teach. It’s always an adventure! My 7th grade Literacy students love to read books with strong and dynamic characters just like them, they take delight in having stories read to them, and they enjoy writing personal narratives and fiction stories. As a class we strive to be our best, to respect others, to focus on achieving our goals, to show vision, and to encourage others. My students inspire me every single day!

My Project

My middle school is challenging students, teachers, and parents to collectively read 1,000,000 minutes throughout the school year.

To meet the Million Minutes Reading Challenge, I am hosting a book tasting.

On the menu: "Brown Girl Dreaming," "Scythe," "The Diary of a Part Time Indian," "Wonder," "Ghost Boys," "The False Prince," "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon," "A Good Kind of Trouble," "House Arrest," "New Kid," and "The Benefits of Being an Octopus." Everyone will be encouraged to sample their favorite genres, but also to partake in something new.

A 1,000, 000 minutes is a lofty goal, but I'm confident that we can meet the challenge with just the right books to hook teachers, students, and families into the joy of reading.
