Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a teacher at a low income high poverty school. 80% of my students are on a free or reduced cost lunch program. While my students are bright and inquisitive, my students often do not perform at the level of students from higher socioeconomic schools due to their lack of exposure to a variety of experiences.

The parents of my students often struggle to put food on the table and homework/school supplies are not a priority.

In my classroom, I look for ways to make my classroom and the activities fun and engaging which often means dipping into my own wallet. While our school does provide a budget for supplies, it does not cover many basics which streamline the function within the classroom.

My Project

As educators we need to prepare our students for a future jobs which haven't been created yet. We need to give our students the lessons from the past for them so they can build their future.

A strong and solid foundation in Science and Social Studies will prepare our students for a future in an increasingly global and competitive market.

By building a personal library that is rich with books on science, historical figures and the world around them, students will be able to access and learn at their own pace by using books which are aligned to the my school district's curriculum and state standards.

The more we provide these types of opportunities where they can learn and collaborate with their peers on projects using classroom materials which are readily at their hands, the deeper their foundation will be in STEM.
